Teaching in class is not as simply as you flip your hand, because we have to understand the psychology factor that determines the atmosphere of learning process in class. Moreover, the subject that we are learned is mathematics. Some people still assume that mathematics as a bogey for them to learn. So psychology understanding is the main factor that we must know and handle.
Fortunately in my department, this kind of subject that is Psychology of Mathematics Learning is taught in third semester. This subject really helps me to understand the psychology aspect when we learn mathematics in class or by our selves. There are so many new knowledge about the understanding of psychology in mathematics learning that make me have wider insight how to control my self when I learn mathematics or when we teach mathematics in class latter.
Here, I’ll try to collect some of terminology that was appeared during in Dr. Marsigit’s (my lecture) class. The words are following:
a. Metaphysic : after, hidden, invisible
b. Accident : the characteristic on another characteristic, fell on
c. Isomorphism : kind of mapping between objects, which shows a relationship between two properties or operations.
d. Analytic : the "having the ability to analyze" or "division into elements or principles."
e. Hilemorfisma : content/volume, container
f. Architectonic: about design, construction, plan, structure
g. Teleology : future, pass, change, process, purpose, distant
h. Superserve : from upper, knowledge, a priory
i. Hologram : unpredictable, stimulus, respond
j. Transcendent : climbing or going beyond some philosophical concept or limit
k. Synthetic : compound, thinking, combination of two or more parts
l. Intuition : space, time, sense, mind
m. Phenomenology: abstraction, simplify, subjective experiences
n. Determination: to decide, to control, to take over
o. Idealization : to be assumed perfectly, simplify the model in order to be easier to understand or to solve the problems
p. Abstraction : choose the characteristic, take the characteristic
q. Concept : understanding, abstract idea, mental symbol, a unit of knowledge built from characteristics.
Exactly, these kinds of words are making me understand about the terminology in psychology of mathematics learning.
